Roxane Collignon - Ath

Photo of Roxane, Ambassador of Ath

My name is Roxane. I work as an educator in a center that supports adults with intellectual disabilities. I'm a mom to a little boy born on January 18, 2021. I live in a house in the middle of the countryside. I produce my vegetables and meat as much as possible, all while respecting the land and the animals. I have a small farm that allows me to do all of this.

Today, if I become an ambassador for the association, it's to help mothers suffering from HG as much as I can.

In 2021, I became pregnant. Very quickly, I started vomiting. My initial appointments with the gynecologist weren't much help. According to her, it was normal during the first trimester and would lessen later on. It was my first baby, and at that point, I had never heard of hyperemesis gravidarum. Three months passed, and I was down 15kg. Everyone started worrying about me, including the gynecologist. An ultimatum was set: if I couldn't eat by the next appointment, I would be hospitalized. That's when I joined a group of moms on Facebook and called for help. It was that day that I first heard about hyperemesis. That day when, for the first time, there was a word for what I was experiencing. I will never thank enough the mom who gave me that breath I needed. Her advice was a light on the dark path I was going through.

It's that light that I want to pass on to future moms. I want to be able to say, "You are not alone." Help yourself with this, surround yourself as much as possible. I want to guide pregnant women to medical professionals who understand this issue and can properly help the person in need and also those accompanying the pregnant mom. Because moms aren't the only ones suffering from this situation. Yes, they are the ones vomiting, but the families around them are in need too. They can feel lost, helpless, and it's important to me that everyone can be equipped to face this condition.
